✨️ Did you know that in the Philippines, there ✨️ Did you know that in the Philippines, there was once a presence of Hindu-Buddhist beliefs in various parts of the islands? There are a number of artifacts that have been excavated throughout the archipelago that are reminders of a once forgotten past. Holding in my hands is a replica of the Agusan Gold Image, previously known as the Golden Tara. It was discovered along the banks of the Wawa River in Agusan, Mindanao, by a Manobo woman named Bilay Campos in 1917. It was then acquired from her by the governor of Agusan and then sold to the Field Museum in Chicago, where it still remains today. Once thought to be Tara, a Hindu-Buddhist goddess, the image has been actually identified upon further study to be a different goddess, the bodhisattva named Vajralāsyā. She is one of the 4 celestial deities who, in traditional beliefs, give offerings to the Buddha, all from the different corners of a mandala. Together, there are 16 deities in total. Vajralāsyā is also known as the goddess of beauty and is skilled in armorous dancing. 🌿 This past weekend I went to the Kapwa Nilalang Symposium in Holly, Michigan. We needed to bring one sacred object to put on the community altar and for my offering, I decided to bring my replica of the Agusan Gold Image of Vajralāsyā to represent and honor the pre-colonial beliefs and culture of our ancestors. - Malong is from @narrastudio - Left bracelet is from @cambio_co and @amami.ph - Right T'boli brass bracelet is from @narrastudio Forgot to add! So hi! 👋 I'm Ligaya and if you can't already tell, I discuss Filipino history, folklore, and culture. I'm of Akeanon & Tagalog descent primarily and live in NY. I'm an animist and polytheist, who follows the indigenous animistic and polytheistic beliefs of the Tagalog and Bisayan people prior to Spanish colonization. A lot of what I post and research is on the pre-colonial culture and beliefs of the Philippines. My end goal of this page and my blog thepinaywriter.com is to help other Filipinos learn about these pre-colonial practices and to know where their ancestors came from. If this is your vibe, welcome! 🐾✨️ Still healing and processing from the l 🐾✨️ Still healing and processing from the loss of our Thor. While he was only with us for 5 weeks, those 5 weeks were enough for him to earn a special place in our hearts. This sweet, big, fluffy boy came into our lives unexpectedly and quick, and left just the same. My heart is still heavy and broken. Losing a pet like this when you least expect it and when they were still young and full of life, is much different from losing a pet who is at the end of their life. You're mentally prepared for it. I was mentally prepared with my last 2 pups who recently passed. But this? This is a stab to the heart and it was horrific to see them suffer in pain just like that. Perfectly happy and healthy, running around in the yard one second, then gone in seconds. I just want to say thank you for all the kind messages of love and support. ❤️ To Thor, we miss you big boy. It doesn't feel the same without you here. Know that you are extremely loved and I hope you are running free in doggy heaven. 🐾🐕

There are over 175 languages throughout the islands, spoken by more than 100 different ethnic groups. Filipinos are not homogeneous. Filipinos as a whole are comprised of many different ethnic groups and languages, all rich and diverse. Buwan ng Wika is a celebration of this diversity and to promote the preservation of these languages. It's also important to stress and know that these are LANGUAGES NOT DIALECTS. There is a big difference. Please stop calling them dialects of Filipino or Tagalog they are not‼️ ➡️ What language does you or your family speak? Drop the name in comments below and write a short phrase or word in the language with the translation in English. Share the beauty of many languages in the Philippines. 🇵🇭

✨️ Will be short on this, but today I received ✨️ Will be short on this, but today I received and participated in another batuk ceremony. As always, it was beautiful. Hearing the "tap tap" sound from the tools our ancestors used to mark their bodies with ancestral marks always just brings me joy and connects me further with the ancestors. I brought my offerings to the table to my own ancestors, which included simple rice and eggs on a banana leaf from the garden. Also had one of my Anito candles lighting up, as well as a small likha (anito figure) that I made out of clay and a replica of the Agusan Golden Image representing the Buddhist goddess, Vajralasya. Together with my youngest brother, @ippiboi , we received our markings that represents our heritage and connects us with our ancestors. Truly am thankful to @nataliarxs for holding this ceremony for both of us and having this space with a lot of fun and laughs. Thank you to @shaynedacuma and @taerxsx for being such awesome stretchers. And thank you to @c_riches_on for hosting the ceremonies in your home. Also thank you to my boyfriend @crouse108 for coming with me to join me in ceremony. ❤️
